The smartest volunteers in town, that’s the claim of team members at Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre, thanks to a partnership with the Workways+ project.
Workways+, run by Pembrokeshire County Council, enjoys close relationships with the voluntary sector and the Heritage Centre is one very successful connection.
One of the centre volunteers is carer Wayne Robbins who joined Workways+ in December 2019. He was looking for training courses, along with volunteering experiences. While with Workways+ Wayne attended Learning Pembrokeshire courses completed several courses to add to his CV when it was time to go back into work, including food hygiene, confidence building and minibus driving.
A local history course led Wayne to join the Heritage Centre volunteers where he quickly became a loyal, hard working and valued team member, working in the coffee shop and helping visitors learn about the community’s history.
Wayne continues to work closely with his Workways Employment Mentor, Andrea Howard Lewis, and when the time came for new volunteer uniforms,Workways+ were pleased to fund the cost as part of the ongoing close working ties with Pembroke Dock Heritage Trust.
The new uniforms include fleeces, polo shirts, café aprons and hi-viz jackets with the new Heritage Trust logos.
