The Mayor of Tenby has reinforced the need for the community to support each other in times of crisis due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

“All I can stress is if we look out for each other like I know the people of Tenby can do, we can make it through these terrible times,” commented Mayor, Clr. Tony Brown.

“There are a number of local businesses offering free delivery to the elderly and self isolated - such as the post office, and the butchers. I myself will offer to pick up orders that are made to business in Tenby - I will pay for goods and deliver for free, they can pay me by card if no cash is available at the time,” said Clr. Brown who operates a taxi service that can be reached on 07951778221.

Members of Tenby town council met on Tuesday night, not for a full meeting, but to discuss how to operate during the pandemic.

“These are unprecedented times and the council has taken the decision to suspend all council, committee and sub-committee meetings until further notice to ensure the safety of councillors, staff and others who may be in attendance,” said the town clerk Andrew Davies.

Decision making has been delegated to a committee of The Clerk, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Mayor Elect who will consult together, and with other members where necessary, via email and other channels.

“Council staff are prepared to keep the office open (dependent on personal circumstances or Government advice) but, to keep social interaction to a minimum, ask that contact is made via telephone, email or Facebook unless the public have no alternative other than to attend in person,” continued Mr. Davies.

“Should it become necessary arrangements will be put in place for staff to work from home to allow those services delivered by the town council to continue to function.

“The situation will be kept under review pending Government advice or policy.

“The council will also look to help co-ordinate all the local offers of volunteer support that are being made,” he added.
