Despite the miserable weather last Sunday, the Rotary Club of Tenby went ahead with its first of two harbour spectacular.
The rain was almost incessant throughout the afternoon and evening and consequently the crowds were much smaller than usual.
However, all the children and adults who attended had an enjoyable time.
Preceding the official opening at 4 pm was Tenby’s first ever bull run. Five large bulls ran around the streets within the walled town aka Pamplona in Spain!
Luckily, no one was injured and the five bulls were eventually cornered at Tenby Harbour! They are currently grazing in a field at a secret location ready for the next harbour event in a fortnight.
Tenby Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, opened the activities. Due to the weather, Seren Irish Dancers did not wear their costumes but, as usual, the performances by the youngsters were excellent.
Fergie entertained the children with a series of games and all present appreciated her energy and enthusiasm.
Some of Matt the Magician’s tricks were stunning and thoroughly baffled the audience. His Punch and Judy Show will be remembered for a long time by the children.
The first band of the evening were Vicetrack. They are a young three piece, two brothers and their cousin. Several of the songs they sang were their own compositions. Vicetrack are a very tight and competent group and no doubt have bigger things to come.
The evening’s headline act were the mature Universal Translators from Mid Wales. The numbers had swelled by this time and everyone rocked to covers from the 1960s through to the 2000s.
As usual, finale was a magnificent firework display from the end of Tenby pier.
The Rotary Club of Tenby is very grateful to all those who attended the harbour last Sunday despite the dreadful weather. Each year, Tenby Rotary donates considerable sums to various charities - local, national and international.
The next harbour specacular organised by Tenby Rotary will be on Sunday, August 20.
