The Tenby Branch of ‘Save the Children’ have launched an appeal to help those affected by the devastating tsunami triggered by a powerful earthquake in Sulawesi, Indonesia recently.
“Children have suffered an extremely distressing event and may have been separated from their families,” said a spokesperson for the Save the Children organisation.
“It is essential that extra care and attention is paid to children in the coming days, weeks and months, while significant work is done to ensure children are reunited with their families.
“Children’s emotional recovery will also need to be an important part of this humanitarian response.
“Save the Children has been working in Indonesia since 1976, and has a long history responding to humanitarian disasters in the country, including the recent earthquakes in Lombok and the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.
“Thanks to our supporters, the Emergency Fund allows us to coordinate a humanitarian response so that in the event of an emergency we’re able to act quickly and save countless lives.
“In disasters such as these, the quicker we respond, the more lives we can save. Having funds readily available is a lifeline to children caught up in disaster,” they added.
The Tenby Branch of Save the Children will be allocated collecting boxes at various places in the town if any one would like to contribute/.
They are also planning a lunch to raise funds at The Giltar Hotel on Saturday, October 20.
