Everyone agrees that the gardens at Picton Castle are superb. In May they are spectacular. Each year the Picton Castle Trust holds a series of events during May called 'Picton in Bloom' to coincide with the burst of colour to be seen all around the gardens.
This year, the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland (in partnership with the Paul Sartori Foundation) joined in with an event of its own entitled 'Music in Bloom' and it turned out to be a superb occasion enjoyed by everyone present.
The evening consisted of a wide programme of mostly classical music from a number very talented young musicians Taking part were vocalists Mared and Ceindeg Davies, cellist Sarah Baggs, vocalist Ffion Phillips, saxophonist Talfan Jenkins, pianist Siriol Jenkins, vocalists Marged and Ffion Rees, violinist Abbi Andreou and trumpeter Alexander Morgan.
The excellent Cwm Cerwyn Trio, with leader Chris Lovegrove on piano and violinist Angharad Williams and Katina Andreou on cello ,also gave superb performances in the truly magnificent surroundings of the Great Hall at the castle.
The Rotary Club would like to thank musical directors Chris Lovegrove and Trystan Phillips for their help.
The entire evening was perfectly organised by Rotarian (and president elect) John Sleigh, whose wife Kathy arranged an excellent assortment of refreshments. The MC was Rotarian Patrick Jones, who added some historical information about the castle and the paintings in the hall during the course of the evening.
President Graham Haddleton thanked everyone who participated in making it such a superb evening and especially director Dai Evans and secretary Sharon Swift from the Trust for their warm welcome and assistance during the evening.
The evening was sponsored by GD Harries and Sons Ltd, contractors, Narberth, KP Thomas, coal merchants, Templeton, and the Picton Castle Trust, and the proceeds were divided between the Paul Sartori Foundation and Rotary charities.
So successful was the evening that it was decided to hold it again next year.
