An idea to have a ‘sub-committee’ to co-ordinate events in Tenby has been encouraged by local councillors.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas said that she would like to see an ‘events sub-committee’ created, as had been suggested in the minutes of the Chamber of Trade and Tourism that came before members.
“It would be great if information on events held in Tenby was collated in some way, as there is so much going on, with the Carten, Scooter Rally, Long Course Weekend, Summer Spectaculars, arts and beer festivals, but nobody seems to know what dates exactly,” she remarked.
“Visitors coming to the town for one event could read about others and it would surely encourage them to come back.
“There was a recent rugby veterans match in the town that nobody seemed to know anything about!” continued Clr. Mrs. Thomas.
Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, said that years ago there was a tourism co-ordinator, which was very helpful and did work very well.
The Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, said that he would encourage an events sub-committee being set up too.
“Tenby is a town for all seasons and such information on events would genuinely afford visitors the opportunity to come back, so we need to share information better. Having said that, the ‘Visit Tenby’ website does offer this kind of information,” he said.
Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown said that people planning events needed to contact the ‘Visit Tenby’ website to ensure that their events were included online, but she would also be keen to see a brochure listing event information.
“It does come to something when Tenby’s Tourist Information Centre is ringing the town council offices asking about info on an event in the town!” added the town clerk.
