An entry of 356 store cattle were forward at Whitland Mart on Saturday, all selling to a very brisk trade, with heifers averaging £519 and steers levelling at £551. Steers sold to a top price of £985 for a pair of Limousins from Roberts, Parke, Henllan Amgoed, Whitland, whilst Belgian Blue heifers from Buckle, Little Rhyndaston, Hayscastle, attracted a bid of £928.
Bulls sold to a top price of £545 for a Limousin from Jenkins and Son, Trefach, Pontfaen.
In the overage cattle ring, a moderate entry saw an average price per kilo of 91.02p. Top price per kilo was 126p for a 685 kilo Limousin steer from Thomas, Bryngwelltyn, Cwmfelin Boeth, which sold for the top price of £860. Overage heifers sold to 98p for a 500 kilo Limousin from Owen, Grove Caravan Park, Pendine, which equated to £490. Bulls made up to £1,000 for a 1,030 kilo Limousin from Thomas, Bryngwelltyn, Cwmfelin Boeth.
An 20 entry of suckler cows forward met a strong demand selling to £1,100 for a Belgian Blue from Davies, Pantmaenog, Llangadog, and £1,100 for a similar animal from Morris, Castell Malgwyn Farm, Llechryd.
In-calvers sold to a top price of £545 for a Limousin from Griffiths, Glyncemaes, New Moat, with other leading prices included £525 for a Limousin from Morris and Sons, Brynawel, Meidrim who also sold at £420.
