Rail enthusiasts and other spectators flocked to Tenby and passing areas on Sunday to catch a glimpse of the Pembroke Coast Express and the the steam hauled ‘Tornado’ will head to Pembrokeshire for a Sunday excursion.
The green-liveried ‘Tornado’ which was built at a cost of £3m by the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust a decade ago, is the UK’s only new-build mainline steam locomotive.
After setting out from Bristol on Sunday morning, the route took passengers through the Severn Tunnel into Wales, then west via Bridgend.
After Port Talbot the journey headed to Carmarthen with a wait whilst the locomotive was serviced, before the ‘Tornado’ train was diesel hauled to Whitland and thence down the branch line to Tenby, for a break in the afternoon, before heading back for the outward journey.
Rail enthusiasts and other spectators are reminded that they should not trespass on to the tracks or any other part of the railway that is not available to passengers.
