A celebratory tea party was held on the weekend to mark the milestone birthday of a Pembroke Dock resident.

100th birthday celebrations were enjoyed by Mrs. Daisy Vernon at Pater Hall along with 53 guests, including friends and family to mark the special occasion.

Mrs. Vernon, who was born in Pembroke Dock on February 1, 1920, has lived all her life in the town except for a brief time in Penclawdd during the war.

Her grandparents moved from Portsmouth to Pembroke Dock when her grandfather became involved in the construction of the Royal Naval Dockyard in Pembroke Dock in the capacity of Superintendent of Docks.

Mrs. Vernon, who had two daughters, was married for 68 years to Joe Vernon until his death.

She was a regular member of St Teilo’s Church in Pembroke Dock being both a member of the choir and a Sunday School teacher, and also an active member of the Royal British Legion, having served as a standard bearer for the women’s branch.

Following the tea party at the weekend, more celebrations were enjoyed by Mrs. Vernon as she was paid a visit by the town’s Mayor Clr. Gordon Goff, who joined the 100 year old and staff at the Cleddau Reach day ward at South Pembs Hospital in wishing her a happy birthday.
