A novel suggestion from a local engineering company has seen £500 raised for Pembrokeshire Sibling Group, Valero Pembroke Refinery’s 2018 Charity of the Year.
When Richard and Kay Scourfield, of Sageston-based Bartlett Engineering Co., approached Valero about acquiring some ex-use pipework from the refinery for a landscaping project, instead of purchasing it for scrap value they offered to make a generous donation to Pembrokeshire Sibling Group.
Valero needed little convincing about the proposal and representatives from Valero, Bartlett Engineering and Pembrokeshire Sibling Group recently met up at the refinery to see the cheque handed over to the charity.
Pembrokeshire Sibling Group is a local charity providing help for children with brothers or sisters with disabilities or additional needs, and the donation from Bartlett Engineering will go towards the charity’s efforts to provide a residential trip for children and families later this year.
Richard Scourfield said: “It has always been a policy of ours to assist local charities in south Pembrokeshire and are glad that this donation will be of benefit to a worthy cause, and our thanks also to Valero for their part in this project.”
Lee Hind, chair of Pembrokeshire Sibling Group, said: “This much-needed donation is a major support for our efforts supporting children with siblings affected by disabilities and additional needs across our county. Our thanks go to Richard and everyone at Bartlett Engineering for their generosity, and to Valero for facilitating this incredible donation.”
Refinery public affairs manager, Stephen Thornton, added: “We are always looking for innovative ways we can help our chosen charity, and our thanks go to Bartlett Engineering and our Stores team who worked in collaboration to ensure this amazing sum of money is donated to Pembrokeshire Sibling Group. We know this donation will have a real positive impact for children here in Pembrokeshire.”
