Local ‘Bridge’ playing clubs have made the decision to cancel up and coming sessions following recent nearby cases of Coronavirus.

Tenby Bridge Club who meet regularly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Kilgetty Community Centre for the card games have announced that as the vast majority of players have reached a ‘silver age’ they have decided to stop playing for a while until this virus dies down.

“Most of our members are over 70 and with age comes medication!” explained Tenby Bridge Club member Ann Dassen.

“Following recent nearby cases of Coronavirus, our committee has made the decision that our Bridge sessions will be temporarily cancelled to safeguard our lovely members.

“As Bridge is played in close contact, playing every person in the room, we have decided it is very sensible to stop playing for a while until this virus dies down.

“The vast majority of us have reached our ‘silver age’ and many have bravely battled serious illness and take a number of potions that would put quite a few of us in the ‘at risk’ category.

“However, all is not lost! We are hopefully we may be able to provide information to all very soon, on how to join together with another member and play online.

“The situation will be monitored on a regular basis and the AGM has been postponed. We will be back as soon as it is safer.

“Thank you to all who have participated and when we are able to re-start playing this will remain a firm favourite in the diary,” added Ann.

Penally Bridge Club have also announced that Bridge play will be temporarily suspended.

“Due to the recent increase in the risk of Coronavirus in this area and the fact that most of our members are over sixty and beyond, we have reluctantly taken the decision to suspend the clubs weekly gatherings until it is safe to do so again - until then, stay well,” said member Alan Hassall.
