A campaign to save Pembroke’s St. Michael’s Hall for community use has sadly failed.
A sale agreed sign appeared outside St. Michael’s in the East End on Wednesday, having been put on the market by Pembrokeshire County Council for £50,000.
A petition organised by Pembroke 21C’s Clr. Gareth Jones, supported by Clrs. Jon Nutting and Mel Phillips, had been distributed around the town calling for the building to be saved and used for performances and films.
“Alas we are too late, a notice went up this morning saying sale agreed,” said Clr. Phillips.
“The county council bought it from the church for £140,000 and have sold it for less than £50,000,” she added.
“It’s sold on the proviso that it will run as a commercial concern, but they can always apply for change of use.
“Disappointing to say the least.”
