Councillors in Tenby have asked for a planning application to be given full consideration by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority planning committee due to concerns raised over cliff safety.

Members of the town council were recently asked to give their views and recommendations on both listed and full plans for alterations to the rear boundary to form a new terrace area at Flat 1 Windsor House, at 4 Crackwell Street, but both Clr. Laurence Blackhall and Clr. Trevor Hallett felt that some form of structural report was needed in relation to the sustainability of the clifftop in that area, thoughts echoed by Tenby Civic Society.

Discussing the application again at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Blackhall said that despite PCNPA’s building conservation officer Rob Scourfield recommending that the application could be delegated to planning officers to decide, he felt that the proposals still needed to go before a full planning committee.

“There is very considerable concern about the status of the clifftop in that area an the ongoing cliff management,” remarked Clr. Blackhall.

“It’s perfectly reasonable for us as a council to expect this application to go before PCNPA’s development management committee - we’re not the experts, but it should be for the elected members to make a decision, and the condition of the cliff should be considered before that decision is made,” he added.
