Developers behind proposals to introduce retail units to a site at The Green in Tenby are hoping to alleviate concerns raised with amended plans.

An application submitted to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority (PCNPA) for a change of use, extensions and alterations to provide two retail units on ground floor and holiday let apartment above with associated six new roof windows at the former Royal Mail Garage site, was discussed earlier this year by members of Tenby Town Council.

Councillors previously raised concerns about traffic problems in that section in the lead up to the Co-op store being approved, and when discussing the latest planning application for The Green, they stated that they were concerned about ‘over-development’ along that busy route in and out of the town, with it likely to lead to even more traffic congestion.

Councillors requested another traffic survey be carried out before passing judgement on the latest application, with members agreeing to defer the matter.

Tenby Civic Society’s planning sub-committee also passed on their views, stating that members had ‘concerns’ that a change of use to shops would suggest ‘more frequent traffic movements’ in and out of the site on what was a ‘busy and problematic’ section of the road.

At Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, the town clerk, Andrew Davies, said that Clr. Mike Evans, who sits on the development management committee of PCNPA, had given an update that the developers had been in consultation with planning officers and were hoping to mitigate the traffic management concerns with amended plans to improve the visibility and access issues at the site.
