Members of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot braved the elements on Friday (August 18) when they held their annual Pig Roast and BBQ event on the Saundersfoot Harbour decking.
The BBC weather forecast for Friday was looking OK on the Wednesday afternoon when the decision to go ahead had to be made. The set-up from around 3.30 pm went well, amid dry and relatively warm conditions, but we know how changeable the weather can be, and the wind and rain was not long coming.
The Rotary Club members, together with the butcher who supplied and served the succulent slow-roasted pig, Mr. Andrew Rees, of Narberth, withstood the conditions for as long as they could, but eventually threw in the towel around 7 pm.
There were other stall holders, including Tenby Inner Wheel, RNLI, Cancer Research UK and Guide Dogs for the Blind, as well as games for both adults and children, all of which added to the appeal of the event.
The club would like to thank all those many visiting families and residents who came early on and persevered until the rains came. They added to the carnival atmosphere, enabling the Rotary Club and the charity stall holders to make some money towards the good causes they support.
Let’s hope the weather is kinder for future events, including the Duck Race in Saundersfoot Harbour planned for tomorrow (Bank Holiday Monday, August 28).
