Covid -19 update

As continually stressed by senior politicians in Welsh and UK Government, we as members of the public have a huge responsibility as lockdown restrictions are lifted.

In terms of some of the steps PCC are taking to inform and support the local community and visitors, include effective and robust communications to ensure that everyone is kept informed of the Covid-19 situation locally.

A public information film is to be produced aimed specifically at incoming tourists and what they can do to minimise the risk of transmitting the infection.

The promotional film will also advise of the apprehensions being felt by many local people as the influx of visitors increases.

As one worried resident said - ‘it is like waiting for a tsunami to hit’ - however, as we brace ourselves for ‘impact’ we must be mindful of the need to tentatively move forward out of lockdown whilst at the same time looking out for one another.

PCC will continue to collaborate with key partners such as Dyfed Powys Police, The National Trust and The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority. We can expect to see some specific messages from county hall as the tourism sector opens.

Again, communication will be paramount, and any urgent or specific messages will be shared as the situation moves forward.

A dedicated incident room will be in place to co-ordinate information fed in by those ‘on the ground’ i.e. the general public, the Police and the tourism sector.

This data will identify any potential crowd or other issues that can then be managed.

Public information will be displayed using the variable (digital) message boards around the county including some digitally capable bus stop signs.

Overgrown hedge at

Hoyles Close

I have received a message this week, regarding the hedge at the back of the properties at Holloway Court that backs on to Hoyles Close.

This hedge needs cutting back as its causing difficulties for motorists when cars are parked along the narrow stretch of road. I have reported the matter to highways maintenance for their attention.

Hedge banks - Trefloyne Lane

The hedge banks along Trefloyne lane running from Penally to St. Florence was also highlighted as needing cutting back this week. As we gathered to meet on Wednesday evening via Zoom, I was pleased to receive confirmation that that work has now been carried out.

Planning Infringement

A case of planning infringement has been brought to my attention in the ward. I have informed the relevant planning authority who will investigate the matter.

Penally Abbey

Some positive news from Penally Abbey - the scaffolding is up, and work is now underway to restore the Abbey to its former glory following the devastating fire.

To help support Penally Abbey during this challenging time Lucas and Melanie have put together some unique experiences that can be purchased in advance to support them on the road to recovery.

All these experiences can be enjoyed as soon as they re-open.
