This year, The Pembrokeshire Prospectors Society have been celebrating their 40th anniversary, and to mark that occasion held an open day at the Picton Centre in Haverfordwest.
Despite the bad weather, it was very successful and enjoyed by all. There were many coins and artefacts found in Pembrokeshire on display, which gave members of the public the opportunity to see and handle part of the history of our county.
During the day, £150 was raised for our local charity this year, Headway, Haverfordwest, who provide support for people with head trauma.
At the July meeting, winners of the find of the month competition were: coins pre-1689 (Henry VI penny, 1422-146) - Kevin Higgs; coins 1689 onwards (Victorian groat, 1854) - Jack Tree; ancient artefacts (William III love token) - Kevin Higgs; modern finds (Victorian silver brooch, 1895) - Gary Scourfield; finds outside Pembs. (Roman Constantius II coin, 337-361 AD) - Kevin Higgs.
Pembrokeshire Prospectors Society provides a free service in searching for lost metallic items. One of our members, Andy Rolfe was successful in finding a lost wedding ring on a beach near Solva recently. The very grateful owner made a very generous donation to our charity Headway.
The club meets at The Cricket Club, Dale Road, Haverfordwest, the first Thursday evening of every month. Guests are always welcome. More details can be found on our website www.pembsprospectors.co.uk
