'Pathetic' and 'ridiculous' is how members of Narberth Town Council described the appointment of a car park attendant at the town's old school playground.

As reported last week, Pembrokeshire County Council is employing an attendant after flouting of car park charges.

"There are 65 car parking spaces and with a charge of £1 a day, that generates £65 revenue," said Clr. David Norcross at Tuesday night's monthly meeting. "Surely the attendant's wages are more than that a day," he continued.

"It is appalling that to spite the community of Narberth, the council are imposing this cost to the ratepayers of the county just to enforce something which is ridiculous."

Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees also felt the matter was 'ridiculous' and 'pathetic'.

Mayor, Clr. Colin Williams, also pointed out that in towns like Carmarthen, parking was free on a Sunday, yet in Narberth, the attendant was employed when there were hardly any vehicles in the car park.

"If the council does any more, they will kill Narberth," he stated.
