Charles has seen many developments within the charity, including patient growth from 566 patients in 2013 to 994 patients at the end of March 2020. Charles has used his finance and accountancy expertise and knowledge to help steer the Audit and Finance Committee, of which he was the committee chair for a number of years ensuring that correct financial reporting, processes and procedures were implemented to safeguard the charity’s future.
In addition to the Audit and Finance Committee, Charles has been over time a member of the Human Resource, Clinical Governance, Strategy and Fundraising Committees. He generated much needed income through his extensive contacts, and as a Gift Aid advocate he avidly promoted this government funded initiative.
“Charles has attended many local and national key meetings, including meetings with Hospice UK, the Welsh Government and other national funders and Hospice advocates,” mentioned Sandra Dade, charity manager. “It is impossible to calculate the hours that Charles has dedicated to the charity, as well as the number of miles travelled, which of course he has always claimed and donated back to the charity along with gift aid,” added Sandra.
Over the years, Charles’s commitment to the Paul Sartori Hospice at Home service has extended through his family, who have also raised vital funds, donated gifts for raffle prizes, as well as volunteering their time at events and in the Paul Sartori stores.
Thankfully, the Foundation will not lose Charles altogether. Charles has been a Paul Sartori voting member since 2001 and will continue in this role, ensuring the charity’s vision and mission are delivered in line with its governing documents.
The Paul Sartori Hospice at Home Service Board of Trustees consists of 10 dedicated volunteers. A trustee role ensures the charity has a clear strategy, and that its work and goals are in line with its vision. A trustee’s role in a charity is to be the ‘guardians of purpose’, making sure that all decisions put the needs of the beneficiaries first. They safeguard the charity’s assets, both physical assets, including pr and intangible ones, such as its reputation. They make sure these are used well and that the charity is run sustainably.
