As reported in a previous issue, David died at home surrounded by his family where he was loved and cared for. His funeral took place at South Bristol Crematorium, on May 23, officiated by the Rev. Baz Rogers. A very large gathering of family and friends attended the service.
David was an old boy of Pembroke Grammar School, but left for teacher training in Bristol. He married, had two sons and remained in Bristol for the rest of his life.
David had numerous and varied interests, including travel, with many visits to Perth to stay with his lifelong friend Gregory Ralph and his wife Caroline. He also visited Canada, Singapore, Barcelona and Prague.
He loved music and was a lifetime fan of crosswords and sudoku. He enjoyed architecture, particularly churches and interesting historical properties as he was a member of the National Trust.
Left to mourn are his sons Jason and Simon, Hazel and his grandchildren Hannah and Joe, James and Josie, his sisters Eira and Marion, Petrina and Marina (sisters-in-law), nieces and nephews Joanna and Layla, Nigel and Tracy, Forbes, Rhea and Safia, Sam and Jaidy and cousins Jenny, Tonie and Phil, Pip and David.
Present also were old boys from Pembroke Grammar School, including Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Parcel and Mr. and Mrs. David Darlington, together with many of his teaching colleagues, friends and neighbours.
A large number of tributes were paid to David, each stating he was a perfect gentleman who will be greatly missed.
David was proud of his Welsh heritage and it was therefore fitting that the final music should be The Treorchy Male Choir singing ‘We’ll Keep a Welcome in the Hillside.’
