MR. D. T. G. DAYE

LAMPETER VELFREY

As reported previously, the death occurred peacefully at his home, on September 2, of Mr. Desmond Thomas George Daye, affectionately known as ‘Des’, aged 84, of Lampeter Velfrey, Narberth.

Des was born at Penfordd, near Llawhaden, on June 22 1931. He made his home with his beloved wife Monica after their marriage on October 5, 1957, in Ty Gwyn, near Lampeter Velfrey, and farmed until their retirement in 1992.

They moved from there in 2001 to Ashfield. They both enjoyed the village community with their many friends and neighbours. They also became fundraisers for the restoration of the village hall.

He loved gardening and working on their smallholding. Des was happiest in his wellies, tending the animals or solving a mechanical problem with his growing collection of farm machinery. Everyone pulled together at haymaking time and he could often be found mowing or baling hay for neighbours as well as his own. He attended the village market on the first Saturday of the month, in the village hall, catching up with friends over a sizzling bacon roll.

Predeceased by his wife, Monica, in March 2009, family left to mourn are Ann and Tony, Wendy and Tony, Carol and Paul, Gareth, Geoffrey and Roz, Brenda and Huw, Maureen and John, Robert, Peter, Eileen, Val and Glyn, Chris and Max, Chris and Andrew, Keith, Susan and Andrew, Debbie (nieces and nephews and partners; Aimee and Morgan, Allys, Laura, Matthew and Rebecca (great-nieces and nephews and partners); Mervyn, Anthony (cousins) and Moira (cousin-in-law).

Unable to attend the funeral were Andrew, Catherine, Victoria, Sarah, Diane, Dafydd, Owen, Morgan, Lucy, Daniel, Harry and Zach (great-nieces and nephews).

There were many family friends and neighbours too numerous to mention.

The family service took place in Ashfield, followed by a service at Parc Gwyn, Narberth. Officiating was Chancellor Geoffrey Morris, who also delivered a fitting tribute to Des.

Bearers were Gareth, Geoffrey, Robert and Peter (nephews).
