Mr. S. H. A. James

Pembroke

Stephen Henry Allen James (Steve), originally from Lower Lamphey Park and latterly St. Daniels Drive, Pembroke, passed away on May 6, aged 81, after bravely battling a short illness.

Steve was born in 1935 to Harry and Roma and was an only child. He farmed at Lower Lamphey Park until his retirement at age 56. Steve married Betty in 1957 and they had three children. He was also a grandfather to seven and great-grandfather to two. He was dearly-loved and leaves happy memories.

Steve led a busy, active life and was well-known in the local community, as was evidenced by the large number of mourners at his funeral and hundreds of sympathy messages received.

He had been a member of St. Michaels amateur dramatic society producing and performing in numerous plays and pantomimes. As a young man, he was a member of South Pembs. Young Farmers and later a leader of the Martletwy club.

In his teenage years, he joined South Pembrokeshire Hunt and eventually became chairman. He loved the countryside and was a keen fisherman, enjoying many happy hours sea or river fishing. He spent his retirement gardening, following country sports, commentating at Pembroke Show as a member of Pembroke Farmers Club, fishing and bowling. In the last few years, he was an active member of Pembroke Dock Bowling Club with his wife Betty.

Steve will be missed by a great many people. A kind, gentle man, he will leave a huge gap in family life.

The family would like to thank Withybush Ward 10, the Paul Sartori Association, the Argyle Care Team, Argyle Surgery, Sharon Jones (palliative care nurse) and Neil Roberts for all their care and support.
