New Mayor of Narberth, Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers, officially took office on Tuesday night.
At the town council's annual general meeting, Clr. Mrs. Rogers was the unanimous choice of her colleagues to succeed Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees as the town's First Citizen. She was proposed by Clr. Mrs. Rees, seconded by the most senior council member, Clr. Eric Feetham, with all those in attendance agreeing.
This is the third time Clr. Mrs. Rogers has been Mayor, having previously held the post in 2007/2008 and 2011/2012.
A florist at Next Door Flower Shop in High Street, she follows in her father's footsteps as he, too, served on the council and was Mayor in the 1980s.
Married to Tony for 26 years, the couple have two daughters, Jemma and Abby. Jemma is in her second year of photography in Cardiff and this term is in Norway studying, while Abby is in her last year at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf, Whitland, doing her A-Levels.
One of the organisers of Narberth Civic Week, Clr. Mrs. Rogers is a volunteer at the Bus Stop youth project and helps with the Rugby Club bingo, as well as supporting many other local groups and organisations, including Narberth group of Slimming World too.
"I'm humbled to be Mayor of our town at a time when Narberth Town Council is looking into a most challenging year," said Clr. Mrs. Rogers.
Deputy Mayor is Clr. Jeremy Griffiths, who joins the 'top table' for the first time. He was proposed for the post by Clr. Mrs. Rees, with Clr. Mrs. Rogers seconding it. All agreed.
Clr. Mrs. Rogers's first duty was to appoint her sister, Elaine Bradbury, as her Mayoress, while Pastor Paul Dando led the council in prayer before the monthly business meeting continued.
