A Narberth sportsman is gearing up for a 'grand' charity challenge descending down the Grand Canyon.

Nick Evans, who is a well-known cricketer in the area and a renowned footballer in his younger days, is now in his early '70s, but that won't put him off from taking on a descent of over 3,100ft, into the mind-blowing Grand Canyon in October.

As part of the challenge to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Campaign and Prostate Cancer, Nick will trek on an ancient Indian trail that leads into the breathtaking Havasupai Indian Reservation.

"A few years ago I had an invitation, asking if I would be interested in trekking on the Great Wall of China for the Breast Cancer Campaign charity, which was a thoroughly enjoyable experience," explained Nick, who had been invited to take on the latest challenge with all past trekkers.

Nick who still plays cricket for Narberth Seconds and the Welsh Over '60s team, will fund the trip himself, as he did previously for the China trek.
