The Narberth Book returns to the Queen’s Hall on Saturday, September 22, 9.30 - 4 pm and will again coincide with the ever popular Narberth Food Festival. C. S. Lewis was spot on when he said: ‘Eating and reading are two pleasures that combine admirably’.
The Narberth Book Fair has been organised by local writers Judith Barrow and Thorne Moore and brings together 45 authors from across Wales and beyond, representing every genre and all ready to chat, sign and sell their books.
“We’re happiest in the company of book lovers,” said Judith, “ and excited to be meeting new readers as well as re-acquainting with old friends.”
Writers attending this year’’ event include detective fiction writers Jan Newton and Cheryl Rees-Price who will be joining Thorne Moore for a panel discussion, ‘On the Trail’at 10 am in the Balcony Room.
Carmarthenshire-based Sally Spedding and John Nicholl are also teaming up with fellow psychological crime writer, Phil Rowlands, for a group talk entitled ‘All in the Mind’at 11 am.
To celebrate the centenary of women first getting the vote, Judith Barrow, author of ‘One hundred Tiny Threads’ and Carol Lovekin, author of ‘Snow Sisters’ will be discussing the political struggles of women and their depiction in literature at 2 pm.
Children’s writers are well represented, including Angela Fish and Sharon Tregenza. Award-winning children’s author, Wendy White (below), will be reading from her latest book ‘Mamgu’s Campervan’ together with science fantasy whizz Colin Parsons, and many more, in a special ‘Are You Sitting Comfortably’ story time session from 12 noon - 2 pm.
This year, the fair will be supporting the charity Burns by Your Side, through merchandise sales and a raffle. The charity trains volunteers and their companion dogs to go into schools and hear children read, especially those who find communicating difficult, as reading to a dog reduces stress levels in children and they gain confidence.
Entry to the fair is FREE, as are all the associated talks and readings.
