A meeting was held at County Hall, Carmarthen, on Wednesday, between the new partners of the former Whitland Dairy Site and their architect, the head of regeneration, the head of planning, the head of economic development and the local member for the ward.
The meeting was brokered by County Clr. Sue Allen, to discuss the recent progress and imminent proposals for the site.
The rubble has been piled high on the lower part of the site for over over eight years, but thankfully is now on the move.
Clr. Allen has been in touch with private business in Carmarthenshire and officers at Carmarthenshire County Council to invite them to use the rubble on regeneration building projects elsewhere in the county.
There is a great deal of rubble and Sue said "Whitland residents are delighted to see something happening."
"The Environment Agency have also carried out some works in the vicinity of the sluice gates to help reduce the risk of flooding in the future."
It is proposed that improvement works on the junction opposite the Fishers Hotel will include traffic calming measures and the first phase of work will start on the higher level whilst ground clearing and preparation continue lower down. A detailed planning application is being prepared for the upper site.
Elsewhere there will be town car parking behind the police office and the potential for this car park to be managed within the local community. It is proposed to retain the small green area opposite the Hywel Dda Interpretive Centre to enhance this part of the town centre.
