Six members of Lower Landsker Trefoil Guild travelled to Llandyssul to join members from all over Wales for the Annual Meeting. It was good to meet old friends face to face and to hear of all that the Trefoil Guild managed to do to keep contact with members throughout the pandemic. At the afternoon meeting the guest speaker was the Head of Cave Rescue in Wales who gave a very interesting explanation of how two very different but equally difficult cave rescues were managed, both, thankfully, with successful outcomes. Three members are now looking forward to the UK annual Meeting in Llandudno in June when the speaker will be adventurer and inspirational woman Tori James who just happens to be President of Girlguiding Pembrokeshire.
Meanwhile closer to home, members enjoyed a visit to Ash Farm, home and business of renowned designer Sian O’Docherty, a former Tenby Brownie and Guide who must surely be a candidate for the title of Pembrokeshire’s own Superwoman. She gave members a fascinating insight into what inspires her beautiful knitted and woven scarves and blankets. It was no surprise to learn that it is mainly the landscape and culture of Pembrokeshire, and, of course, the sea.
She then served a healthy and delicious lunch menu. All this, with two small girls and a herd of alpacas to contend with means that she leads a very busy life. Some of the more talented members were very interested in the craft workshops that are also available and many more intend to return for a Saturday morning walk with the alpacas.
After coffee, members were delighted to present Jackie Burke with a beautiful bouquet to celebrate her 80th birthday. The icing on the cake was that as they left, the alpacas all made their way down the field to greet them. Many thanks must go to Sian and her assistant Ella for a wonderful morning.
At the next meeting on Wednesday, June 1, members will plant an oak tree at Allen’s View before celebrating the Platinum Jubilee with a picnic above the North Beach, and for some, even a Jubilee swim !
