As you will have seen last week when the first pair were introduced - this year the TenFoot Charity endurance event has added an extra discipline to its weekend challenge with the Tenfoot Swim/Run.
Four well-known local pairs have come together to enter the event and these eight individuals have agreed to feature over the coming months, as they train from ‘Zero to Heroes’ all in the name of Charity.
They will push themselves both physically and mentally in an effort to complete the challenging 5.5 mile course, staying together throughout the Swim and run disciplines and crossing the finish line together at the same time.
Two local dads Stephen Williams and Danny Henson trying to ditch the dad bods and get active will take on the challenge.
They usually spend their weekends watching their sons playing rugby for Tenby but have been gently coaxed into taking on a challenge of their own in the inaugural TenFoot Swim/Run.
Stephen said: “I’ve been asked the reasons why I’ve agreed to take part in the Tenfoot’s first Swim/Run event - the simple answer is I don’t think I was ever asked!
“If you know my brother Chris Williams (TenFoot Chairman), you’ll know he has a great way of getting you to do something you don’t really want to do, whilst at the same time getting you to believe that he’s doing you a massive favour!
“Having said that, since ‘agreeing’ to do the Swim/Run it’s certainly given me an element of focus to my fitness regime. Not that I’m a swimmer.
“I’ll turn my hands to most sports but swimming is a new one on me and, if I’m honest, one I’ve been avoiding. Danny and I have spent many an hour watching our children play sport vowing to do something ourselves and this is it, a real challenge. Can’t see us setting the British record though!
“What is also appealing is that the event incorporates the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline with the stunning backdrops of Tenby and Saundersfoot,” he added.
Danny commented: “Similarly to Steve, I to have no recollection of ever actually choosing to sign up for the event, despite its obvious appeal, however following numerous texts, what’s ap messages and phone calls I did eventually agree, I think?.
“That being said, I’m a big supporter of local events and charities and have been threatening to do something for a long time and the Swim/Run was just the challenge I needed,” he continued.
If you would like to join the TenFoot Challenge weekend they have something for all ages and levels of fitness, starting with the FootStep run on the evening of Friday 12th July 12 with a Family Friendly Fun Run with distances for all abilities (Fancy Dress highly encouraged), then Saturday bring the 5k Endurance Swim and at the same time the new 5.5m Swim/Run will be taking place both starting in Tenby and ending in Saundersfoot.
