The gardens entered in the Kilgetty in Bloom Competition were judged on Wednesday, July 15, on a fine and sunny day after two days of rain, but this did not detract from the colourful and varied display of lovely gardens, large and small.

The judges this year were Roy and Angela Weston and Judy Macdonald and they did a very thoughtful and thorough job of inspecting gardens for variety and quality of plants, colour and overall appearance.

The Kilgetty Environmental Group, which looks after all the village flowerbeds and the community garden, provided a very tasty lunch in the community centre, to give the judges time to collect their thoughts and enjoy a well-earned break.

There were 24 individual entries, with three trade premises and three group entries making a total of 75 classes entered so not an easy task for the judges and we thank them for giving up their day for us.

The Gary Waters Memorial Trophy was presented at Stepaside School to the Nursery Class for their work in their polytunnel and the items they produced with what they had grown.

The imaginative themes for this year resulted in a win for ‘Summer Snow,’closely followed by ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ and ‘Olive’s girly shed,’ complete with poem.

An afternoon strawberry tea was held on Friday for all entrants and the trophies were presented by the chairman of the community association, David Anderson.
