The Begelly Kilgetty Community Association volunteers have been hard at work in the Community Garden, plus building a new arbour seat and having a new pergola erected, (despite having some of their trees and shrubs destroyed by thoughtless young boys), and also growing on and planting out the summer bedding in the villages. Thank you to Folly Farm for managing the Begelly sign bed.

Villagers are anxiously watching the weather as they plant up their tubs and hanging baskets in time for the annual Kilgetty in Bloom competition, which is open to any resident and tradeperson of the villages of Kilgetty and Begelly.

Also plans are going ahead with those fun themes such as ‘Polly put the kettle on’ and ‘The Flowerpot Men’ of previous years.

There are many different classes to choose from, such as pond or water feature, vegetable garden, patio or window boxes/tubs/ baskets so it doesn’t have to be the whole garden and it can be a front garden viewed from the pavement.

There are different volunteer judges each year for this difficult job, so don’t be put off if you were disappointed last year as everyone has their own outlook on things. Entry forms are now in the Pharmacy and Bridge Stores, and we thank them for doing this for us, so please fill in and return with the entry money, £1.50 per entry plus 50p for each extra class entered.

The classes are as follows: 1. Front Garden; 2. Rear Garden; 3. Display with window boxes,/ tubs/ or hanging baskets; 4. Over 75year old gardener’s garden; 5. Garden theme (eg. Japanese, comedy, poetry related); 6. Patio; 7. 1st time entry - front or rear garden; 8. Vegetable Garden; 9. Shruberry/Trees/Topiary; 10. Pond / Water Feature; 11. Creative Feature ( eg. Bridge, pergola, well etc.); 12. Environmentally-friendly Garden; 13. Trade Premises; 14. Best overall Garden – Shillingford Park residents only; 15. Stepaside School project (details from school).

Return entry forms with payment to the Pharmacy or Bridge Stores by Wednesday, July 3.

Judging Day will take place on Wednesday, July 10.

All entrants welcome to attend the presentation and complimentary Strawberry Tea on Friday, July 19 at 3 pm.

Results will be displayed in the Pharmacy window after that date.
