IN Begelly, a joyous Christmas tree festival was held at St Mary’s church during the lead-up to Christmas, writes Oliver Johnson. There were twenty beautiful trees, decorated by local businesses and organisations.
Trees were decorated with miniature mermaids, garden spades, cars, and tractors; one tree was also dedicated to the memory of Hedi Dortez, a much-loved member of the church and community.
Over the Christmas period, many visited the wonderful family Christingle service. A joyful time was had by all, as the Quaynotes Choir delighted us with festive singing and carols. Carols by Candlelight and a Midnight Eucharist service were also held, both of which were well-attended. Pupils from Stepaside School visited the church to look at the trees and enjoy a range of fun activities.
St Mary’s would like to extend its thanks to Crossroads Garage, the Bakery, Kilgetty Pharmacy, Oakfields Gardens, Vincent Davis Haverfordwest, Classic Carpets, and Station Garage for their generous support. Folly Farm also kindly donated complimentary raffle prizes, which the church was most grateful for.
Other organisations, such as the Kilgetty Gardening Club, Begelly Golden Age, Kilgetty WI, Monday Lunch Club, Paul Sartori, Begelly Joybelles, Tractor Convoy, Bluetits, Stepaside School, Saundersfoot Wombles, and Saundersfoot Rotary Club, also took part.
During the festival, a prize draw for luxury hampers was held, with items kindly donated by members of the church. A generous amount of much-needed funds was raised to help keep St Mary’s open into the foreseeable future. A big thank you to all those who attended or contributed to make it such a joyful occasion.
