A planned event in Tenby to celebrate children’s author Roald Dahl in his centenary year has been described as ‘innovative and exciting’ for the town.

As 2016 marks 100 years since the storyteller’s birth in Cardiff, amateur dramatics group, the ‘Eastend Flyover Company’, who are based in Pembroke, are pushing forward with their plans to hold festivities in Tenby over the weekend of September 8, 9 and 10, with the central theme of the piece to be ‘The BFG’ story, featuring a nine-foot puppet that will take to the streets of the resort, followed by an audience.

In addition, cast who are not involved in the performance at that particular time will be wandering the streets as Dahl characters - where you could see Fantastic Mr. Fox leaving Tenby Bookshop, Charlie and Grandpa Jo outside Lollies, or even the Twits having a row in Sergeant’s Lane!

The organisers held a meeting in Tenby last week, encouraging local businesses and organisations interested in being involved in the community project to attend.

The Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, told members of the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night that he had attended the meeting.

“The event is going forward and soon the production company will be casting supporting parts and encouraging volunteers who want to be part of the project to get in touch,” he said.

“The organisers are looking at the routes and taking advice on licensing issues. They are looking to start here at the De Valence and finish the production down the harbour in front of the Dahl family home.

“The company want to do something innovative and exciting in the town and they are a really positive group of people, so I would encourage anyone who wants to get involved to contact them,” continued Clr. Blackhall.

The town clerk said that the production would come back to them as they were planning on holding another open meeting in Tenby, and looking to hold an open casting session soon.
