Not letting the grass grow under his feet in identifying a new business opportunity is Layton Waters, of Kilgetty.

He is currently the only tradesman in Pembrokeshire who is a specialist layer of the artificial lawn surface Grono.

“Artifical grass has come a long way in recent years,” said Layton, whose garden and home maintenance and improvement business, Oakfield Garden Services, will be celebrating its 10th anniversary next year.

“It’s washable, comes in different lengths and is ideal for low-maintenance gardens, as well as holiday homes and schools.”

Owners of properties in Tenby and Pembroke Dock are currently enjoying the benefits of Grono grass in their gardens.

Added Layton: “It’s not something that can be just rolled out over the existing lawn surface - the turf has to be cut off, then a stone sub-layer goes on, followed by weed control. Finally, the new grass surface is put down and pinned in place.

“There’s a lot of preparation involved, but the end results are well worth it.”

“Artificial grass has really taken off in other parts of the country, so it’s likely to be seen a lot more in Pembrokeshire now.
