Sir,
There are often complaints in the press about the response of the emergency services and having recently called upon these services, I wanted to share my experience, not least because I know that many of those involved will be amongst your readership.
On Tuesday after Christmas my wife had a stroke and as a result fell (we believe and very much hope whilst unconscious) down the basement steps. I dialled 999 and an ambulance crew was with us very promptly.
Having assessed the situation, they obtained quickly the back-up of another crew, of the air ambulance and of the Tenby volunteer fire-brigade. The conduct of all those involved was exemplary - professional and compassionate.
She was taken to the neurosurgical unit at Cardiff, but the damage was too profound and too deep within the brain for treatment. My wife died on Saturday morning not having regained consciousness.
I am eternally grateful to everyone involved for conduct which was professional, considerate and compassionate. If any of your readers were involved, or know those who were, please relay my heartfelt thanks.
Douglas Fraser,
Tenby.
