Sir,

I find it hard to comprehend that National Parks are backing the council’s plan to build 160 houses on the Brynhir fields. The Brynhir fields is the only green space left that is easily accessible to Tenby’s locals and visitors alike and is used constantly by both.

The Pembrokeshire Visitor Survey 1211/12 was undertaken by the council to assess what visitors considered most important to making their stay in Tenby enjoyable. The study found that the natural environment is key to the enjoyment of visitors. Sixty per cent of families interviewed stated that going on a short walk (up to two hours) remains the most enjoyed activity and more important than theme or activity parks.

Who are these houses being built for, particularly with the population of Tenby declining by nearly 1,000 since 1991 and 40 per cent of homes owned in Tenby being second homes. Why sacrifice this beautiful piece of countryside with its diverse wildlife and outstanding views, for houses which will very likely be bought by people outside of Tenby to the detriment of locals, visitors and wildlife
