On Tuesday evening (July 2) at St John’s Church a concert was held not only to create awareness of this important charity but to benefit the fundraising side of it’s aims.
Tenby Male Choir supported this event with an evening of singing all their well known songs and also invited the very talented Elizabeth Morgan to play the piano during the solo parts.
Tony Key was compere for the event and with his rich Richard Burton voice invited the audience to sit back and enjoy an evening of traditional songs from Wales plus inviting the audience to join in with Climb Every Mountain plus participation with My Grandfather’s Clock.
After singing Rachie, Shenandoah and Leonard Cohen’s – Hallelujah the choir finished the first section with African Prayer, which has three different languages in the lyrics.
Young local talented Elizabeth Morgan then played the lovely -Je Te Veux – by Satie followed by Impromptu Op 90 No.4 by Schubert and delighted the audience with her skill and virtuosity. Still only 12 years old – Elizabeth Morgan who attends Greenhill School is a former winner of the Pembrokeshire Secondary School Music Festival not only in her own category but overall festival winner in 2018.
In the second section Tenby Male Choir sang Llef followed by Let it be Me but included a tribute to men who worked in the mining industry with the song Working Man which saw John Butland (Top Tenor) and Kevin Morgan (Baritone) take solo parts. The audience greatly enjoyed – Bring Him Home and My Grandfather’s Clock before hearing again Elizabeth Morgan playing that wonderful – Wedding Day in Troldhaugen Op.65 No.6 - by Norwegian composer – Edvard Grieg.
Founder member of the Pembrokeshire Fundraising Branch of Guide Dogs Cymru – Eva Rich attended the concert together with her dog ’Oyster’. She spoke to the audience about how important it was to raise money for the training of Guide Dogs which currently cost over £5,000. The general public can support the Charity by being in a scheme called ’Sponsor a Puppy’.
Eva then delighted the audience by singing ’What a Wonderful World’ made famous by Louis Armstrong and followed this up by John Rowles – ’If I Only Had Time’.
Everyone benefited from this very entertaining evening.
