If you were asked for your top ten list of radicals, where would Jesus rank on the list? If not at the top, then perhaps the problem is the way the Church presents Christ.
Jesus was way ahead of time. He spoke up for women, and to them in a male dominated culture, long before any liberation movement. He put children in the centre, before we had thought of the rights of the child or children's commissioners. When the order of the day was an eye for an eye, he turned the other cheek and disrupted every funeral he went to, by raising the dead.
On Sunday, Phil Prosser spoke about the radical Jesus, whose teaching was revolutionary. The Jesus who challenged every trend by his words, his actions and his ability to break free, even from death. This Jesus, the real Jesus is more than a template for Neo of the Matrix. He didn't just talk the talk, this Jesus, the real Jesus, knows how to walk the walk and he is in the business of teaching others to do the same.
Taking him at his word can revolutionise your life and in turn affect the world. At Grace Church we believe his instruction to go into all the world, telling people about Him - in words and in deeds. Senior Pastor, Paul Dando, has just returned from speaking at a conference to Polish, Lithuanian and Belarus Church Leaders. Others have recently been to Israel and Columbia, one is in Guam, three young adults are heading for Zambia in August and another prepares to go to Hatfield, South Africa for 'Year of your Life'.
Warning - this Jesus, the real Jesus, can seriously challenge your opinions and damage your schedule. If you want to know more about him, Grace Church meet every Sunday at 10.30 am in the Queen's Hall, Narberth. Coffee is served from 10 am. Our main offices are at The Courthouse, Narberth, where amongst other community activities, we also hold Alpha Courses. A church reformed and always reforming.
