Fears over the future of Narberth Swimming Pool have been expressed this week.
This follows an announcement by Pembrokeshire County Council that a report recommending that consultation should take place on the future of the pool is to be considered by cabinet members at their meeting on December 2.
County Councillor Wynne Evans, who represents Narberth on the local authority, said: "I am sure the public will fully participate in this review and tell the county council in no uncertain terms this pool must survive in Narberth.
"This is more than just a place to swim, it is also a social gathering place for many individuals and groups. This was proved to me on a visit I made recently to a pool users meeting.
"And there are surely measures we can adopt to make the pool even more financially viable. I am also pleased that already an action group is being formed to go head to head with the council on this important issue.
"I have already met with staff to reassure them that this pool does have a future, as long as we all work for the same result, in keeping this pool for the town."
Clr. Evans added: "I would like to thank local pool user John Sleigh in being so pro-active in his campaign in the last few days to ensure the long-term future for the pool, and know that with the support of other pool user groups will do all they can to keep the pool in the community for many years. I myself am talking to companies who supply solar power panels in attempt to reduce the pool's heating costs."
