Two concerts each year at St John’s Church, Tenby, are fixtures in the calendar for Pembroke and District Male Voice Choir and at the latest choristers welcomed a new soloist, local harpist Jess Ward.

Jess Ward, a music teacher from Pembroke, delighted with several pieces played on her Welsh harp, including folk tunes from Ireland, Scotland and Wales and one inspired by the Book of Soloman in the Bible. The combination of Jess’ voice and the harp made for memorable moments for both the large audience and choristers.

Musical Director Juliet Rossiter’s programme choices included the Welsh hymn ‘Rachie’, the rousing ‘African Prayer’ and two Elvis Presley songs. MC Matthew John’s invitation to the audience to join in ‘American Trilogy’ added five extra voices to the choir ranks, including Matthew’s father Steve, a key supporter on the choir’s travels.

Choir president Clive Collins and his wife Enid were also welcomed, along with guest accompanist Peter Griffiths. And Vince Mingay was a welcome addition to the baritone section, staging for the first time.

Liz Storey thanked the choir on behalf of the church. Refreshments were provided as usual in the schoolroom where the church ladies were thanked by choir chairman Huw Morgan.

It was a busy week for the choir as the choristers also performed at Neyland Hub - a charity event in support of the Craig Maxwell Family Genomics Fund.
