The Steps2Health walking group had a varied July as they ventured to different parts of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire in all climes.

July 1 - Long Course Weekend

Because of the road closures and lack of buses, Steps2Health started the month of July with two walks in different places. Members were invited to join whichever walk they could get to. 14 managed to join the Tenby walk and seven the Kilgetty one. Those who managed to get there enjoyed the social walk and talk.

July 6 - Lydstep to Tenby

It was a nice warm sunny day, which didn’t hold for most of the month. Starting from the sea front in Lydstep Haven, the eight Nordic walkers tackled the long climb up to cliff-top level on the Coast Path. They were rewarded with some lovely views of Caldey and Tenby along the open expanses at the top. When they reached Tenby South Beach, they enjoyed the long stretch of beach back to Tenby.

July 8 - Laugharne

The minibus trip to Laugharne was well supported. The Speedies followed the Dylan Thomas Birthday walk, then returned via the epic St John’s Hill. The climb was well worth the view, even if the visibility wasn’t particularly good.

The Steadies took on the much easier walk past the castle to Dylan Thomas’ writing shed and boathouse. Both groups ended in the town square where there were plenty of places to find refreshments.

July 13 - Bosherston

There was a double surprise for the eight Nordic Walkers who went to Bosherston on July 13. Firstly, in a week of indifferent weather it was a very warm and pleasant day. Secondly, the walkers enjoyed the wonderful sight of the water-lilies, which were out very early.

After a picnic lunch, they continued around the ponds to finish with a cup of tea at Auntie Vi’s [The Olde World Cafe, Bosherston].

July 15 - Town Walk

Those who turned up were rewarded with some nice warm sunshine for a local walk around Tenby.

July 20 - Llansteffan

Eight Nordic walkers made the trip to Llansteffan. Unusually it was an all-girl party. Walking conditions were perfect. Although the sky looked threatening for most of the time, it stayed dry and cool. After a brief stop at the castle, they circled round to the beautiful viewpoint at Wharley Point. They returned to Llansteffan via the Wales Coast Path and the beach.

July 22 - Saundersfoot

This was a walk for the intrepid all-weather members of Steps2Health. 17 people turned out despite the continuous driving rain. The Steadies went to Wiseman’s Bridge and back. The Speedies turned off at Coppet Hall and went via St Issell’s church before returning via the Ridgeway and the incline.

Those who attended enjoyed the walk despite the weather, but were quite pleased to take shelter in nice dry cafés at the end.
