A Pembroke lady passed away after sustaining a wound to her head in her own home, a coroner’s inquest into her death heard last week.

Eighty-year-old Patricia Jean Harvey, of Montgomery Close, Monkton, died on August 30, as a result of a subdural Hematoma that she sustained after a fall at her home, an inquest into her death at Milford Haven town hall heard on Thursday, November 23.

Coroner’s Officer for Dyfed Powys Police, Jeremy Davies, told the inquest that Mrs. Harvey, who originally hailed from Selly Oak in Birmingham, moved to Monkton in 2015, with her grandson Daniel acting as her full-time carer, after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2012.

On the evening of August 29, Mrs. Harvey’s grandson was at home when he heard a noise and saw that she had pulled a sliding door back in the house which hit her in the head, causing a wound to her forehead.

He treated the wound and continued to check on it through the evening, and redressing it before she went to bed, but Mrs. Harvey woke up during the early hours with a sharp intake of breath and became restless, before suffering sickness and Diarrhea.

Later on Mrs. Harvey appeared to be choking and gagging whilst suffering bouts of coughing, so her grandson checked her airwave and removed fluid from her mouth and nose, before calling an ambulance.

Mrs. Harvey was conveyed to Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest where she passed away later that evening.

Pembrokeshire Coroner, Mark Layton told the inquest that the post-mortem report stated that Mrs. Harvey, who also suffered with heart disease, died as a result of a subdural Hematoma caused by a domestic accident, before recording a verdict of accidental death.
