The pupils of the Federation of Tavernspite and Templeton Schools recently celebrated a fantastic ‘Templespite Day’ - aptly named by the pupils showing a great example of the two schools working together since their federation in 2014.
Last month, all of the pupils in the Foundation Phase from both schools came together for some shared learning and experiences for the whole day.
The pupils from Templeton School went to Tavernspite School where the children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know one another as they worked and learnt together.
Mrs. Sarah Arthur, deputy headteacher, coordinated and arranged a number of activities that were tailored to the interests and preferences of activities that the children enjoy most. This included pizza making (using the pizza oven at Tavernspite) and to coincide with the topic for this term the children made butterfly pizzas, focussing on symmetrical patterns. Everyone enjoyed making fruit and marshmallow kebabs, working collaboratively together in their smaller groups. The children also enjoyed a range of art activities in the nature garden and participated in a great variety of physical games outside practising their throwing, catching and co-operative skills.
Everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch on the field and then went for a walk around the village of Tavernspite.
Mr. Kevin Phelps, headteacher. said: “I am very grateful to Mrs. Arthur and all of the Foundation Phase staff for organising such a wonderful event for all of the children. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their day and it is a delightful example of how these two schools have very strong links and working relationships that support the learning and needs of all pupils.”
