LEARNING Pembrokeshire has shared an important update regarding Pembroke Dock Community Learning Centre.
On March 26, the centre concluded its long-standing role as a Community Learning Centre. Since relocating to Albion Square in 2004 from its original Meyrick Street site, the centre has proudly supported adult learners for many years. The building, which once served as a primary school, will now return to supporting the education of school age children.
Going forward, Essential Skills, ESOL, Digital Skills, and Welsh classes will be delivered at Market Hall, where the service will be based alongside Futureworks.
Pembroke Dock Market Hall dates back to 1826. As well as the Futureworks main office, it houses an indoor market every Friday - currently down to one trader, the fish and veg stands having closed within the past year following retirement and, sadly, bereavement. The remaining stall is a long-established outpost of Carmarthen butcher Albert Rees and remains a community focus, with conversations conducted in both English and Welsh.
Part of Market Hall has recently been refurbished, providing bright, comfortable, and well equipped classrooms, as well as ample parking for learners.
A number of groups and leisure classes will continue at Market Hall, while others will take place in various community venues including the Library, Studio Lilianna (above Dorina) and Pater Hall. Pater Hall itself has recently been renovated, offering modern, airy rooms that provide an excellent learning environment.
Learning Pembrokeshire staff will continue to offer a wide range of classes from September onwards and hope learners will join them in these new locations.
