Members of Pembroke & Monkton Local History Society will be welcoming Father Gildas of Caldey Abbey to the Town Hall on Saturday for a talk on the role of women in history.
The Pembroke & Monkton Local History Society meeting will take place on Saturday March 4, from 10am to 12 noon in Pembroke Town Hall. Father Gildas will be travelling from Caldey Island for the occasion. A renowned historian, he has spoken to the Society on previous occasions: this time he will be talking about the role of women in history. Largely overshadowed by men, we do not hear much about ‘her story’: history is very much about ‘his story’!
As for previous meetings, the Town Hall will be open from 10am for coffee and cake – an opportunity to meet up and socialise; an opportunity also to visit the upstairs Council Chamber and Museum, which has now opened up for the 2023 season. It will be open weekday mornings 10am to 12.30pm until Easter when opening hours will be extended to 3pm. There is a lift for disabled access.
Following this, at 11am, Father Gildas will give his talk ‘Her Story for a Change: Women’s Neglected Role in History’ in the George Lewis Room.
Everyone is welcome to attend - you do not have to be a member - and entry is free. For any queries, email [email protected] or phone 07584 429224 and visit www.pembrokeandmonktonhistory.org.uk
