PRESIDENT Diane Rigden welcomed ladies of St Issell’s WI (Saundersfoot) to the June meeting with a special welcome to two representatives from the Samaritans.

Explaining that they use false names when taking calls during their periods of duty at the Haverfordwest Branch, the volunteers gave lots of information as to how the Samaritans operate.

The calls the helpline operators receive can be from anywhere in the country; they can be on varying subjects and can last for up to two hours. The charity’s service is open 24 hours a day and 365 days of the year.

By the end of the talk, St Issell’s WI members had learnt a lot about the Samaritans’ fundraising and the many and varied duties within the organisation. Eva Rich thanked them for an interesting and informative talk.

Following refreshments, Sandra John was thanked for the flowers for the top table, and the only birthday girl for June was Jane Lee. There was a special welcome to Rachel Jones paying a visit.

Diane told ladies that, unfortunately, the planned pudding and Prosecco evening had had to be cancelled, due to the shortage of puddings.

The seat on the harbour had received some repairs and staining and was now looking much better, and Bev was asked to thank her husband for his help. Liz also advised that her husband had removed the train from Coppet Hall, and would be carrying out painting and repairs. She was also asked to thank Rob for his help.

Diane read through the news letter, but as most events were in the north of the county there was no interest, and that also went for the bingo night in Lamphey.

Bev had information regarding the proposed trip to Picton Castle for the September meeting. Entrance fee and lunch would cost around £25, and it was also hoped to have a coach if there was enough interest. Names were taken, and ladies were asked to bring a £10 deposit to the July meeting.

This month’s competition winner was Jacqui Cowgill and the lucky raffle winners were Eva Rich and Anne-Marie Littlewood.

Diane wished ladies a safe journey home, reminding everyone that the July meeting will be a strawberry tea but it will be at the usual time of 7.15pm.
