MEMBERS of a Pembrokeshire young farmers club have donated £2,000 to the Wales Air Ambulance following a successful year of fundraising.
Some of the fundraising throughout the year, by the members from Eglwyswrw Young Farmers Club included a Easter car treasure hunt, quiz nights, fireworks nights and a tractor run.
Last year, chairman Rhodri Vaughan chose the Wales Air Ambulance as the charity that Eglwyswrw Young Farmers Club would support throughout his term.
As well as raising funds for the lifesaving Charity the members also fundraised for their own club.
Members of Eglwyswrw Young Farmers Club are no strangers to raising funds for the all-Wales Charity, in 2015 they raised £3,500.
Wales Air Ambulance Regional Fundraising Manager for the area, Mike May, was delighted to be recently invited to give a talk to the members and hear about their fundraising activities.
Two members from Eglwyswrw YFC are past patients of the Wales Air Ambulance so the club knows firsthand how important this service is to the people of Wales.
Sophie Howard from Eglwyswrw YFC, said: “We were absolutely delighted as a club to be able to present £2,000 to the Wales Air Ambulance Charity. Throughout the year, we organised a variety of fun events.”
Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.
It is delivered via a unique third sector and public sector partnership. The Wales Air Ambulance Charity relies on public donations to raise the £13 million required every year to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.
The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency critical care.
Mike May, Wales Air Ambulance Regional Fundraising Manager for Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire said: “A huge thank you to all the members at the Eglwyswrw Young Farmers Club, they’ve once again raised an incredible amount for the Charity.
“I was delighted to be invited to the club and to be given an opportunity to talk to the lovely members who felt passionate about raising funds for the Wales Air Ambulance. Since 2015 the club has raised an incredible £5,500, for our lifesaving Charity.
“The members have a close link to our Charity because two of them are past patients, which brings home how vital our service is in this country. Every penny raised, makes a huge difference and will help save lives. Thank you all so much, we really appreciate your support.”
