There will be plenty of festive fun in Tenby on Saturday (December 2) as the town’s Christmas Festivities committee, Tenby RNLI and Tenby Round Table join forces to ‘launch’ the start of the Yuletide season in the seaside resort.
A Christmas cracker of a day is planned starting with the ever popular Santa Run through the streets of the town. Organised for the second year by Tenby Round Table the run begins at 11.45 am with a short ‘lap’ of the town centre for junior competitors, before the main 3k event at 12 noon.
Top local DJ Steve Briers will be on hand throughout the afternoon to keep the Christmas atmosphere swinging with plenty of festive favourites while the Salvation Army band, Tenby Friendship Group and local schools choirs will be leading community carol singing in Tudor Square from around 2.30 pm.
Seren School of Irish Dancing and the Kelly Williams School of Dance will be performing from 3.30 to 4.30 pm while Chase and Marshall from Paw Patrol will be out and about throughout the afternoon.
At 4 pm Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane and mayoress Charley Reohorn set off down to Tenby Lifeboat Station to join the crew of the Hayden Miller as they launch at 4.15 pm to head out towards Caldey to meet Father Christmas.
The Hayden Miller will bring Father Christmas and the Mayor back on shore and then they will board the inshore lifeboat to be towed into the Square through a festive flurry of snow from the roof of Tenby House Hotel to turn on the lights on the town Christmas Tree in the grounds of St Mary’s Church.
Following this, the trio will be conveyed by Tenby Fire Brigade up to the De Valence where Father Christmas will be welcoming children into his grotto.
Children are encouraged to wear festive fancy dress which will be judge by the Mayor and prizes awarded at a Christmas Family Fun Night in the De Valence.
Children will also be able to keep a sharp look-out for Christmas puddings hidden in shop windows as part of a Christmas Pudding Hunt organised by the Chamber of Trade and Tourism.
There will be an opportunity for craft, local produce and charity stalls in the High Street and Tudor Square throughout the afternoon and anyone interested is asked to contact Tenby Town Council, on 01834 842730 for further details.
The Christmas merriment in the town will continue with Tenby Round Table hosting their ever popular Senior Citizen’s Christmas dinner in the De Valence on Wednesday, December 6.
Of course the festive fun does not stop on December 25 either as it wouldn’t be the Christmas season without the annual braving of the briny at the Boxing Day swim from the North Beach on the 26th.
The De Valence Trust will also be hosting a professional touring pantomime company’s production of the classic family favourite Aladdin in the De Valence on January 4 to round off the season in style.
