Saundersfoot’s Wilson Mills-McBeth continues to raise awareness of Down Syndrome in his own unique style - this time by making his mark ahead of the festive season with his very own charity Christmas cards.
The four-year-old who currently attends Ysgol Hafan Y Môr in Tenby is an ambassador for the charity Follow Your Dreams and an advocate for PADS (positive about Down syndrome).
Wilson tries his best to change people’s perceptions and help end discrimination through his through his social media accounts (Wilson pretty fly for a small guy), and since August of last year, he has raised over £5k to help charities, through organising fun days, raffles and even a local charity run.
“As a family we were stumped on how we could continue to raise awareness during lockdown, so we decided to think about Christmas and asked members of the Facebook group - portrait artists UK if they could suggest an artist who would be able to do a commission piece so Wilson could appear on some festive cards for family and friends, raising awareness that way,” said Wilson’s mum Sara.
“Those in the Facebook group loved the idea so much, they wanted to turn it into a competition within the group, over 70 UK artist designed images of Wilson with a cherub theme. He always gets told he looks like a cherub so it was a great choice!
“After showing friends and family the winning designs they realised there was quite a bit of interest in these cards...nobody had seen children with disabilities on Christmas cards before - so we’ve decided to make these cards available for anyone to purchase - raising awareness and money for Wilson’s chosen charities,” continued Sara.
The cards are currently being printed and will be available soon with information on Wilson’s facebook page.
Kilgetty Post Office will also be stocking the cards.
