The Carten100 charity ride from Cardiff to Tenby has been rescheduled for Saturday June 1 the organisers have confirmed.
For the first time in 15 years, organisers had been forced to postpone the ride due to take place on April 27 due to poor weather conditions forecast for the day, with Storm Hannah coming in.
Organisers have stated that from the moment they made the decision to cancel the Carten100, they have worked with all the different local authorities as well their volunteers whom run the different feed stations to secure a new date.
“We found that the window for this was small, particularly with our finish in Tenby which is a considerably busy town,” a spokeperson for the event said.
“Dates clashed with car rallies, the Long Course Weekend and its summer street closure, and from then on, it’s straight into Ironman and we didn’t want to work with a date that was in October as our riders have trained for an April ride and the weather could be unreliable then too.
“We can’t say thank you enough to all our partners particularly the councillors, police and local authorities whom have been working with us over the last week to find a suitable date that did not clash with other events across our 108-mile route.
“However, we do understand that not all our riders will be able to make this new date and we can only apologies to you now.”
Organisers have offered the opportunity to ride 2020 at a reduced entry fee of £30 for anyone not able to make the rescheduled date this year (see Carten website for details).
Next year’s ride is on Saturday, May 9.
“Finally, we would like to say thank to all our riders for the support the Carten 100 received over the decision to cancel the ride. We did not come to the decision easily and the positive comments we received over social media, email, phone and in person over the Friday and weekend reassured us that we had made the correct decision,”?they added.
