A great turnout of floats and fancy dress walkers aligned the streets of Whitland on Saturday, for the annual carnival procession.
Everything from magical unicorns to maraca shaking Mexicans could be seen, and everyone from Peter Pan to The Flinstones were in town for the festivities.
John Seeley of the Whitland Park Comittee said it was obe of the best carnivals the town has seen in years.
“We would like to thank all our sponsors and advertisers and to all the people that supported us throughout the week.
“The carnival was one of the best ones we’ve had in many years with 29 classic cars in the procession along with 12 floats. The Llanelli Legion band was a great success too.
“A big thank you goes to Whitland Chamber of Trade who helped us on quite a few occasions during the week.
“We would also like to thank the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland for the help on carnival day along with the Women’s Institute.
“We now thankfully have a full quota of committee members and hope to make next year’s Whitland week even more of a success,” he added.
The town’s Mayor, Clr. Frank Connor-Hughes, commented that his year, all came together as a community and made Whitland ‘proud’.
“On behalf of Whitland, I as Mayor am so proud to have been part of such a wonderful celebration and the week long festivities,” he said.
“There are many people owing so much to the few, the volunteers who planned, gathered, prepared and ran the events this week.
“They deserve a huge round of applause from everyone. I saw thousands attend our Carnival this year, from all through the town and in to Parc Dr Owen. The happy smiling faces were amazing and so good to see.
“On top of the fantastic weather we had some incredible floats, the excellent number of classic cars, a wonderful military band, dancers, singers and an hilarious ‘It’s a Knockout’.
“The stalls all around the park along with the fairground rides and WI tent made a fantastic day for all!” added the Mayor.
